Determining the market value of a collectible is a meticulous and comprehensive process based on two essential pillars.
Firstly, our experts at Timeless conduct an in-depth in-house screening. This involves analyzing both realized transactions (such as auctions) and current asking prices (e.g., on online marketplaces) to obtain a comprehensive market overview. Furthermore, the screening process is designed to consider the specific characteristics of the respective collectible categories. Since many of these items are so rare, Timeless also includes similar collectibles in the valuation of individual assets. The principle here is that realized transactions (e.g., auction results) are weighted more heavily than asking prices to provide a realistic and reliable value judgment.
In addition to the internal valuation, publicly accessible market data and reports (such as the Knight Frank Wealth Report), as well as a network of external curators, are consulted. These experts verify the market prices or, if necessary, provide recommendations for adjustments, which creates an additional layer of review and security. In individual cases, appraisers/experts are also commissioned to determine the authenticity and value of individual collectibles (cars, artworks) if this is additionally required.
To ensure the relevance and timeliness of the valuations, data from the current and preceding quarters may be used. This allows for quick adaptation to market situations and trends. However, Timeless is aware that market value determination, especially for unique items/one-offs, cannot always be absolutely precise and has certain limitations (e.g., a lack of comparable offers).
